Hi,
My name is Dan Hartz from Victorville, California. I'm 45, married, but no kids. I'm a retired supervising probation officer. I build mostly European racing types in 1/43, but I buy in all scales. I figure you should buy it when you see it because it might not be around when you want it. My 1:1 cars are a 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider in need of a restoration, a 1961 Austin Healey 3000 that's in really nice shape, a 2006 Cadillac STS daily driver, and a 2007 Porsche Carrera (my dream car from about age 15). I wish a lot of success to this new forum.
Dan

Hello Dan, Welcome to this small, but hopefully growing, group. 45 and retired, eh? Living in California, with a Porsche as well: does it get any better? I have had the privilege of visiting your beautiful part of the planet on a couple of occasions to attend the Moto GP race @ Laguna Seca. My wife and I stayed in Carmel. Fantastic: I would leave in a moment if I had the opportunity! Retired @ 45! Maybe you can give me a few pointers, as I'm only a few years behind. Here's one way I know I can get closer to that goal: stop buying so many models, especially resin ones... ;D Anyway, good for you, mate. Looking forward to sharing ideas, tips, etc with you on this group. Cheers, Michael

Hi Michael,
I actually live a lot further south than Laguna Seca. I'm about 60 miles northeast of Los Angeles. It's nicer area than L.A. but not nearly as nice as the Monterey area.
As far retiring at 45, it unfortunately came with a price. Mainly a massive heart attack at 42 and a bad back that causes pain constantly. Being retired is pretty nice, but I'd rather be working and healthier. Fortunately, having my hobbies really helps a lot.
Take care, Dan

I'm sorry to hear that, Dan. Look after yourself, and yes, I agree, having hobbies is beneficial for all of us.
